about  esf business clusters

The ESF Business Clusters project, which is part-funded by the European Social Fund and will run until December 2023, will engage and support at least 580 SME and micro-businesses in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to determine their workforce skills needs and co-design and pilot new training programmes to enhance the industry-relevance of the local educational offer.

To deliver the Business Clusters project, Truro and Penwith College is working alongside Cornwall Chamber of Commerce, Cornwall Council, Cornwall Marine Network, Digital Peninsula Network, Kernow Health CIC, Software Cornwall and The Cornwall College Group. The strength of this partnership enables the project to offer employer-led activities to a wide range of key sectors, including Construction, Early Years, Health and Social Care, Hair and Beauty, Hospitality and Leisure, Manufacturing, Marine, Retail and Digital Technologies and Software.

The project is delivering three key activity strands

Engagement of SME and Micro-Businesses in Skills Development:

Working with employers to determine current and emerging skills needs that will inform innovative, collaborative and labour market relevant training for businesses in skills development and delivery.

Co-Design to Create and Adapt Skills Programmes and Delivery Models:

Engaging businesses in the design and development of new skills programmes, including Apprenticeship Standards, FE & HE programmes, to meet emerging gaps in provision. These are being trialled with businesses to ensure programmes are fit for purpose and meet local skills needs.

Support for Work Experience, Work Placements and Apprenticeship Opportunities:

Businesses are being supported to create collaborative projects, work placements, internships and apprenticeships, including higher and degree level programmes. Enabling businesses to benefit from new talent, skills and fresh approaches.
